Ironmouse is suffering at the hands of YouTube following an untimely and unexpected channel shutdown. It was revealed just hours ago that the globally renowned VTuber had been hit by a takedown that has brought years’ worth of videos offline. Ironmouse explained on Twitter that she is embroiled in a legal battle with the video-sharing and streaming platform.
Out of Nowhere
Following a string of copyright strikes, Ironmouse’s main VOD channel was taken down by YouTube. This was somewhat on the table for Ironmouse, who had referenced a potential shutdown before the channel was taken offline. She said on stream:
It’s going to get deleted because I don’t want to dispute it because I don’t want to submit my personal information to whoever it is.
Per the regulations of the platform, Ironmouse’s main channel was closed down because it was affiliated with the VOD channel that was previously taken offline on September 9. The rule states that users cannot circumvent a ban or a profile termination by uploading content elsewhere, hence the closure of the main channel.
On Twitter, Ironmouse stressed that she is working with a legal team to straighten out the situation, but YouTube’s rules are pretty cut-and-dry. By way of a response, Ironmouse’s community took to social media to slam YouTube.
Last year, Ironmouse became the first VTuber to win Content Creator of the Year at The Game Awards, and she has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
