Tony Hawk Promises That "There Will Be a Future" for 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater'

Tony Hawk is certain “there will be a future” for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater as he celebrates the game’s 25th anniversary.

Taking to Instagram to share a few words, Hawk posted a few behind-the-scenes clips of the beloved video game and wrote, “The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released exactly 25 years ago today. My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and – as some have argued – change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution). It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day. And most of the featured characters are still out there ripping and representing skateboarding’s diversity in the best ways possible.”

He continued, “Seen here is a snippet of our motion capture session (from 411VM) during the development phase. I poured myself into every aspect of this project because I believed we were creating something exceptional, and I am immensely proud of the series that followed… and their soundtracks.” Hawk added, “Thanks to Activision, Neversoft (RIP) and all of you that played THPS in those formative years. I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series; but there will be a future.”

In June 2022, Birdman confirmed that the awaited Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 remasters were no longer moving forward as Activision scrapped its plans for the games. He revealed that those remasters were already on the table upon the release of 1 +2, which dropped in September 2020. “I wish I could say that we had something in the works, but you know, Vicarious Visions kind of got disbanded and Activision’s going through all their stuff, so I don’t know what’s next,” he said.

Stay tuned for more info on the future of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
