TOHO Announces New 'Godzilla' Film by 'Godzilla Minus One' Director

Today, November 3, marks 70 years since Godzilla was brought to the big screen in Japan. The larger-than-life monster has played a prominent role in pop culture since then and has been celebrated once again this year with new merchandise, the 10th annual Godzilla Festival in Tokyo and more.

Leading up to the special anniversary, TOHO took to social media to make an announcement for the franchise. Godzilla Minus One writer and director Takashi Yamazaki (previously The Fighter Pilot (2013) and Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005)) will be working with the entertainment company to produce another Godzilla film, serving as the VFX supervisor, writer and director. This announcement comes just under a year after Godzilla Minus One was a surprise box office hit around the world, receiving critical acclaim for its epic production and heartfelt story.

While no key specifics or footage of the forthcoming project have been shared, the untitled film has been officially greenlit and teasers are expected to emerge in the years to come. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the project as we await further updates.
