Review: Devil May Cry (2025) Season 1 – Stylish, Savage, and Surprisingly Satisfying

The Devil May Cry anime is back—and this time, it hits hard. Netflix’s 2025 Devil May Cry Season 1 delivers an eight-episode demon-slaying thrill ride packed with slick action, gothic flair, and just the right amount of chaotic charm. It's everything longtime fans could hope for, and a solid entry point for newcomers.

Let’s get it out of the way: Dante is back, baby, and he’s every bit the pizza-loving, gun-slinging, sword-swinging icon you remember. This version of Dante leans into the cocky, smirking antihero we met in DMC3, but with flashes of the older, wearier demon hunter we’ve seen in later games. His design is faithful but modernized, and the voice work? Chef's kiss—cool, campy, and charismatic.
The story doesn’t try to do too much. It’s a simple arc about Dante taking on jobs, slashing his way through hordes of demons, and slowly unraveling a deeper conspiracy involving demon royalty, human corruption, and family trauma (because, of course). The pacing is brisk, with just enough worldbuilding to keep things interesting without getting bogged down in lore dumps.
The real star, though, is the action. Directed with anime flair and game-accurate absurdity, the fight scenes are jaw-dropping. Think slow-mo gun flips, air juggles, devil trigger transformations—all set to a heavy metal soundtrack that absolutely shreds. It's over-the-top in the best way possible, and you can tell the animators are having a blast.
There are a few rough edges—some side characters lack depth, and a couple of episodes dip in energy—but overall, Season 1 nails the tone. It’s fast, flashy, and faithful to the franchise, without feeling like pure fan service.

Final Verdict:
Devil May Cry Season 1 is a hell of a good time—bloody, stylish, and full of personality. Whether you're a longtime demon slayer or just here for the ride, this anime brings the fire and leaves you wanting more.
