Sloclap, the developers of the popular action game Sifu, have revealed their next game, Rematch. An arcade soccer game launching in summer 2025, Rematch represents a change from the norm for the Paris-based developer.
“We felt it was time for a new perspective on this beautiful game: closer to the pitch, closer to the players,” Sloclap said.
Taking place in a dynamically-changing stadium, Rematch’s gameplay features 5v5 matchups with no fouls and no offside. There’s also no out of bounds, meaning the ball can — and will — bounce right back into play. That goes for whether you want to pass it off the side wall or try and backboard it behind the net. Sloclap says that skill will be the “deciding factor” in how you handle passes, shots, volleys, and more.
The game is made for online play where players will control one player on the pitch. Because of that concept, Rematch uses a third-person camera that follows your player as opposed to the entire team. To make sure players can properly communicate and position, the game will feature both voice chat and quick chat options.
Available positions include striker, defender, and goalkeeper. Speaking of goalkeeping, the position has specific mechanics compared to other players. Sloclap’s co-founder Pierre Tarno compares the goalkeeper to be like “the boss at the end of the level”. He says that the mechanics allow players to defend the net how they see fit whether staying back and waiting for a save, or rushing up to be more aggressive towards the opposing strikers.
