A Minecraft Movie gets a full-length trailer, providing the best look yet at the upcoming adaptation. Directed by Jared Hess, the upcoming film serves as an adaptation of the popular Minecraft video game franchise, following a young girl and her band of unlikely companions as they set out on an adventure to save the Overworld from an Ender Dragon. The first teaser for A Minecraft Movie landed in September, providing the first look at Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa as Garett Garrison, and it was met with a mixed response.
Warner Bros. Pictures now shares the official trailer for A Minecraft Movie, unveiling more about the upcoming film. The footage features a first look at young Steve and his troubled upbringing before jumping ahead in time to Steve as an adult.
Momoa also appears in the trailer, as do cast members Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks. The footage provides a closer look at the Overworld, revealing how the movie recreates the video game's environment, but it also teases that there will be plenty of references to the games in other ways, including in the form of props and creatures. What The New Minecraft Trailer Reveals About The Movie
A Pigline raising a sword and looking angry in A Minecraft Movie
The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie didn't go over well, and the YouTube comments on the video are overwhelmingly negative. "Funny prank warner bros, you can release the real teaser now," a comment with 93,000 likes from @Ink_44 reads. The latest trailer seemingly addresses the backlash to the first trailer, opening with a clapperboard and a voice saying, "Minecraft trailer, take two." The tone of the trailer is certainly a change in direction, aiming to highlight the emotional stakes of the film in its footage of a young Steve.
In addition to attempting a bit of a course-correction, the latest trailer for A Minecraft Movie packs in plenty of game references. Piglins are shown to serve as antagonists in the movie, for example, just as they do in some of the games. Momoa's Garrett is also shown digging in one brief scene, and the earth blocks pop out of existence in true game fashion. The end of the trailer also features an Ender Pearl, a device from the games that allows the user to teleport to wherever it lands.
