After three long years since its reveal at the very first Silent Hill Transmission back in 2022, Konami has finally revealed a brand new trailer and game details for Silent Hill f.

Developed by Taiwanese company NeoBards Entertainment, with a story by writer Ryukishi07 (When They Cry) and artist Kera (Spirit Hunter NG) handling creature and character design, Silent Hill f marks the eighth mainline game in the Silent Hill series which started in 1999 with the eponymous first game, and most recently saw Bloober Team's remake of Silent Hill 2.

In today's Transmission, Okamoto and Ryukishi07 presented the new trailer as well as more information about the story and gameplay. Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f will follow a young girl, Hinako Shimizu, living in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, Gifu (based on Japan's very real Kanayama, Gero):

“Shimizu Hinako was living her life as an ordinary teenager […] That is, until her town is suddenly shrouded in fog and begins to change in a horrific way. Now, she must explore a town she no longer recognizes while solving puzzles, fighting strange enemies, and doing everything she can to survive… in order to face the ultimate decision that she must make. This is a tale about a beautiful yet terrifying choice.”

This theme of things being “beautiful yet terrifying” will carry on throughout the game, as Okamoto, Ryukishi07 and kera (via message) stressed that Silent Hill f will focus on “finding the beauty in terror”, blending horrific circumstances with ethereal visuals.

Not just visuals – Silent Hill music maestro Akira Yamaoka also joined the Transmission to announce his involvement in the new game's soundtrack and audio design.

If the new Silent Hill f trailer is anything to go by, this could well be one of the scariest games of the last few years. Traditional elements of Japanese culture contrast with uncanny, terrifying monsters with broken limbs and multiple faces that chase poor Hinako throughout the town.

Silent Hill f will be available on PlayStation 5,Windows and Xbox Series X/S
