Kai Cenat’s has ended his Mafiathon 2 stream, but not before the breaking a Twitch subscriber record in the process.
Cenat ended his month-long stream with 728,535 followers, beating the previous high set by Ironmouse in October with 326,252 subscribers.
The final moments of Mafiathon 2
Kai Cenat ended with over 720,000 subscribers, more than double the previous Twitch record
Cenat’s Mafiathon 2 was the talk of the internet throughout November. Over the course of the month, he invited some of the biggest celebrity names—Lizzo, Chris Brown, and SZA to name a few—to hang out with him and his friends, and many of the guests offered motivational speeches to viewers.
One of Cenat's most recent guests was Kyrie Irving, who was asked if he still believed that the Earth was flat.
"By the way, I got in so much trouble for that. Y'all be careful with that, man, because a lot of people believe the Earth is flat or believe it's round,” he said.
After being pressed by Cenat for more, Irving gave a vague answer to seemingly change the subject.
“People have said that the Earth is flat. But at the end of the day, it's not about whether it's flat, it's questioning what is going around you," he explained. "I was labeled as a conspiracy theorist."
The streaming marathon wasn't without controversy: Cenat was apparently blindsided when magician Max Major staged his own hanging on the livestream.
After the elaborate stunt, which involved Cenat pulling a handle and Major briefly appearing in a hanging position, Cenat told viewers that he and his team expected another stunt to take place.
“He finessed, chat,” Cenat said later in that night’s stream. “Chat, no more magic on this motherfucker, chat. … Sometimes some shit gon’ happen to you and it is what it is.”
Of the Mafiathon 2's many heartwarming moments, one of the biggest came when Cenat landed legendary interviewer Nardwuar on the stream and told him, “You the GOAT bro, can I give you a hug?” before breaking into an unforgettable Q-and-A.
At the end of their time together, Nardwuar talked about an experience during a race as a kid that helped him realize the value of perseverance.
“I’m not stupid enough to quit!” he said. “Stick around long enough, and people may drop off, and that’ll put you at the top of the charts.”
