Henry Cavill’s Warhammer Film Might Be In Danger

It was revealed a good while ago that Henry Cavill is taking a starring role in a Warhammer 40,000 film – but since that news was announced, there have been some issues pushing the project forward. In a recent financial update, Games Workshop discussed these blockers, addressing the fact that both GW and Amazon have just six months to agree on creative guidelines before the project is assumedly shut down.

Back in December, Games Workshop revealed a partnership with Amazon that would last 12 months, during which the two firms would need to decide on creative guidelines for both the Warhammer film and a television series. However, one of the tighter stipulations of this contract was that these productions would only proceed if agreements could be made. Otherwise, they won’t even make it out of the starting gate.

Speaking on the project a while ago, Henry Cavill, one of the world’s most prolific actors and a lifelong gamer, said:

I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite an honor and responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon, and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.

Thanks to IGN for the quote

Games Workshop has been growing in leaps and bounds in recent months, picking up solid profits and expanding worldwide. The push to produce a Warhammer movie and a television series is a logical one, and partnering with Amazon to get it done is shrewd. Earlier this year, Prime Video saw the arrival of the Fallout TV series, and it became the second-largest launch on the platform ever.

Games Workshop advised that they’ll provide an update shortly, but with fewer than six months left to work out the intricacies of the project, some fans are getting itchy…
