Bethesda Game Studios has taken a deep dive into the future of Fallout 76 and unveiled a huge amount of information about the upcoming ‘ghoul characters’ change. In 2025, for the first time in Fallout history, players will be able to convert their character into a ghoul – and that comes with a vast array of changes.
It’s an overhaul to characters, the likes of which we’ve never seen in Fallout 76.
Succumb to the Rads
Becoming a ghoul in Fallout 76 will change how you play the game in multiple ways. For instance, soaking up radiation will no longer threaten your life but bolster it. It was promised that some bizarre alterations might happen to your ghoul character if you’re racking up the rads – and not all of them will be good.
Bethesda has created a string of exclusive perks that will be readily available for ghoul characters, such as:
Radioactive Strength
Arms of Steel
Boneshatter
Breathe It In
Glowing Out
Radiation Power!
Thick Skin
United Ordeal
There’s even a perk that’ll allow you to regain HP while you’re in combat, just for being in combat. That’s OP and it’ll be a huge driving reason for people to take control of a ghoul character, which is unlocked for every player beyond level 50.
Bethesda also highlighted that ghoul characters will have a ‘Feral’ meter to watch over that replaces food and water meters. This will fill when certain actions are completed, but it’s not always a bad thing to turn a little feral, the team said. At the least, you’ll become a powerhouse brawler with unparalleled physical strength – for a while.
There’s plenty on the horizon for Fallout 76, but the ghoul character change is by far the most anticipated. It’ll usher in an entirely new way to play the game, and the best thing is, it’s not even a permanent change. If you don’t want to be a ghoul character forever, you can change back into a human.
