Conor McGregor’s Hitman Partnership Cut After Sexual Assault Verdict

Last week, Conor McGregor was found guilty of sexual assault charges in a court in Dublin, Ireland. He was ordered to pay almost $300,000 in damages based on allegations that he ‘brutally raped and battered’ a woman in a hotel in 2018.

In light of the news, IO Interactive has decided to part ways with Conor McGregor, who was added to Hitman: World of Assassination in July as a special target in ‘The Disruptor’ DLC. Bizarrely, fans of McGregor spoke out against those using the game to murder McGregor’s character repeatedly.

Conor McGregor’s character has been removed from the game and the DLC has been pulled from sale.

Elusive Indeed

Conor McGregor’s ‘Elusive Target’ character has been removed from Hitman: World of Assassination by IO Interactive, with the firm taking to social media to share the following message:

In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today.

The feedback was mixed, with many gamers demanding that IO Interactive keep McGregor in the game so players can exact virtual punishment on the character.

McGregor has already promised to appeal the verdict handed down in Dublin’s High Court. On social media, McGregor became the target of a campaign of ridicule, appearing in countless images and clips walking out of the court alongside his distraught wife, Dee Devlin.

Historically, IO Interactive has chopped and changed the Elusive Targets in Hitman, bringing some back to life and eradicating others forever. One of the more popular Elusive Targets was Mark Faba, played by Sean Bean. He first appeared in 2018 and has since returned – but it’s safe to say that Conor McGregor’s ‘Disruptor’ won’t come any time soon.
